Village Hall
St Johns Winsford
The Problem
This village hall is in constant use by the community. It’s a vibrant, multi use facility. The challenge was twofold. Firstly due to its age it had very little if any thermal insulation to the roof space. It was unusual in that it had a profiled ceiling as well as a loft space. Secondly because there was hard surfaces in the hall, the reverberation noise, even with 10 people within the hall could be uncomfortable and noisy.
The Solution
Rather than traditional thinking of insulating under the roof onto the corrugation, James advised the team to apply 100 mm closed cell Class 1 Polyurethane Insulation to the underside of the ceiling. This means that the heating expenditure will be significantly reduced, achieving .21 u value and according to the Energy Consulting Group 45% saving on energy saving, upgrading its thermal imaging too. Also the hard surfaces have now been combated by converting the whole hard ceiling into a much softer absorption surface.
The Result
Now the Community Committee through their foresight of bringing in Metropolitan Insulation have a much more Green/Eco friendly village hall, improving its efficiency, its Green credentials and thermal efficiency. Furthermore it’s a much quieter and acoustically efficient environment for all events.
