Condensation results when air becomes cold and can no longer hold water in the same way that warm air does. Condensation can create all sorts of problems including mould, fungi’s and what might appear to be leaks.
This is why conservatories for example can cause a lot of problems with condensation. When conservatories are not adequately insulated, they tend to exhibit all sorts of problems including damp and mould. The problem is particularly acute when heat from an adjacent room is allowed to flow into a conservatory. Windows can quickly become soaked with condensation in the winter when lack of insulation causes the room to be a major cold spot in a house.
Insulation can help reduce condensation not just in conservatories but also in many other types of buildings dramatically by ensuring heat doesn’t escape from a room and the temperature variance is kept to a minimum. Insulation will also prevent heat escaping overnight if temperatures fall significantly.
Aside from fitting insulation other ways to prevent condensation include keeping rooms heated in line with other areas of a property and opening doors and windows to allow air to circulate.
Also, when fitting insulation, make sure you use someone qualified to install it.
